The Razor's Edge

Well, when you push the limits, you sometimes pay the price.  Training ramped up for me over the last three weeks, with some key workouts on the track and some hill repeats at Bird Hills.  This different training style seems to have put some strain on my lower legs, probably resulting in some tendinitis.  While I would normally push through this kind of thing, I have taken a pretty safe approach to make sure I can continue to prepare properly for my upcoming races.  Lots of icing, stretching and massage has occurred over the last week, as well as a serious decrease in activity.  In fact, my last week has looked like this:

5/4: 1 hour of core work
5/5: Icing
5/6: 20 minutes of core work
5/7: 2.93 mile walk with Christy
5/8: 3.71 mile walk with Christy
5/9: 2.45 mile run/walk test
5/10: 2 mile treadmill hike and 30 minutes of core work

I'm planning on a big outing next week, as I travel to the Eastern States 100 course to do some real soul searching on if this is my next 100 or not.  I'm planning on running the second half of the course over two days, and I plan on running it hard.  Of course, this all depends on my legs and how well they recover.  Another cross training type week ahead as I rest up.
